3-7-24 THOUGHTS
For a grandpa, it was exciting to watch his grandson be reborn in baptism last night. My son, baptizing his son. Grace covering sin with a view that sin would no longer have dominion! Two verses in our reading tell the story. 1John 1:5 says “God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.” 1John 1:7 says “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” It is a continual repentance-cleansing process! These are powerful and beautiful words. Let us “walk in the light” and let us “have fellowship with one another”!
1John 1:5-2:3 NIV This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. 2:1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defence—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. 3 We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands.
Eph 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
Heb 9:14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
1Pet 1:19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
Rev 1:5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and released us from our sins by His blood —
My Prayer:
Thank You, O God, for cleansing us from sin. Help us to fellowship with each other in light. Increase that togetherness, O Father, that we might encourage ourselves as the Body of Christ. We confess our sin and our weakness, purify us in Jesus blood. Thank You for this great eternal truth that You have given in grace and mercy and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
